Ana Castro is a Spanish teacher at DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education with a concentration in Industrial Chemistry from the Superior Pedagogic Institute for Education in Havana, Cuba. After emigrating from Cuba in 2000, she received master’s degree in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2005. Throughout her career she has taught history, mathematics, Spanish, and chemistry to K-12, college, and behaviorally disabled students. Through her hard work, she was team leader for many years in Cuba, and department chair at Meyzeek Middle in Louisville, KY. She has been serving as a mentor teacher since 1990. She has received the 2014 Class Nobel Top Ten Educator of the Year Award, as well as the 2016 University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award.
